the story so far

Hello again…

It seems unreal that the last chance I got to assemble a post was just before Irma hit us. I feel bad that I never resurfaced to say that we were okay, but I’m here to say it now.

We didn’t get power back for what felt like forever, and internet and phones took even longer, but for the most part we did okay. It was a brutal week and the cleanup is still in progress. I can now say I’ve lived through an intense hurricane, and been outside to see it’s very eye. I’m grateful for the extent to which we were spared damage to person and property. Others were less lucky. But thanks be to God, we did alright. My dad is still crazy, in case anyone was wondering.

Since then life has been a whole other sort of insane. I guess for the most part it’s fairly mundane stuff, but certainly enough to keep me winded and exhausted at the end of each day and week and month. I can’t believe it’s about to be December. Today we celebrated two birthdays of some of my favorite people – my now-one-year-old nephew Castiel, and my now-one-year-older boyfriend Jefferson. I can’t believe it’s been a year since Cas has been around, and since Jefferson and I have been best friends. It’s almost been a year since Jefferson and I started dating, and believe it or not we’re attempting to navigate the uncharted territory of planning to get married next summer (?!) if all goes to plan.

In addition to teaching I’ve started private tutoring part time to save a little something extra for all the upcoming life plans, and that has kept me unbelievably tired and far too busy. Even if it’s only an extra 7-9 hours of working per week, I think it’s safe to say I’ve hit my limit in terms of time spent educating others. It’s been nice though, and the amount of debt I’ve erased and savings I have accrued keep me grateful to have it.

We just had Thanksgiving week off of school which I needed so badly and in four short (hopefully) weeks we will be off again for Christmas. I’m particularly excited for this because for New Years Jefferson and I will be flying to Idaho for him to meet the rest of my siblings he didn’t meet last year. It also means we get to enjoy a little non-Florida winter weather which will be exciting, and a little of that gorgeous Rocky Mountain living. Usually I don’t look forward to Christmas time, but this year I truly am.

What else is new? Oh, I don’t know. Not a whole lot I guess. My sister with the two babies is expecting again in May, so she’s gonna have 3-under-3. Whew! What a whirlwind! I think that’s probably the extent of new news…

I have put the WordPress app back on my phone, so I’m hoping that reminds and encourages me to get back to blogging, at least when there’s something interesting to say or when my sanity needs help. For now though, I’ll bid a fond farewell and goodnight. It feels good to be back, my friends!

    1. Haha I see you caught that… Thanks! I like to just throw it in casually because we’re doing things in a weird order – not yet engaged/proposed to, but we’re both actively planning, saving, meeting with our priest, etc., so it’s not like I can make a big old post about a proposal or anything. Yet. 😉 I’m sure I’ll be casually mentioning it more and more often 😀
