I’ve had my eye on the Peace Corps since I was about 10 or 12 years old. I didn’t exactly see it as a possibility though until I was finishing high school and starting college. Early in college I researched PC and discovered that I was lightyears away from fulfilling even the minimum requirements. However, six months after graduating university with a liberal arts degree, and teaching for less than a year in a private school, I revisited the idea to find that I’d hit all the necessary requirements. So here’s what happened after that.
January 15, 2015 – first submitted application to PC online
January 16, 2015 – completed medical questionnaire and selected desired placements
February 5, 2015 – asked to interview for position of Secondary Education English Teacher in Rwanda
February 27, 2015 – Rwanda interview
March 13, 2015 – rejected for PC Rwanda. Start moving on with life…
April 25, 2015 – receive email asking if I’m interested in PC Ukraine. Respond immediately. [interview and recommendations waived because they’ve already got them]. Reapply, resubmit CV, etc.
The waiting begins again.
May 16, 2015 – Received email Invitation to Peace Corps Ukraine!
May 19, 2015 – finished reading through all materials sent, accept invitation.
Unquantifiable amounts of paperwork begin!
